Dr Steven Collins is one of the world’s leading archaeologists focusing on the Bible. He has excavated in the ‘Holy Land’ for more than 30 years at archaeological sites in Israel, Palestine, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He holds several advanced degrees, including doctorates in archaeology, biblical history, and biblical interpretation. Dr Collins is Dean of the School of Archaeology, Veritas International University, and serves as Consulting Research Professor in the College of Archaeology, Trinity Southwest University, where he is also head curator of the Museum of Archaeology & Biblical History.

For over 20 years he has been the Director and Chief Archaeologist of the Tall el-Hammam Excavation Project (TeHEP) in Jordan, the most extensive Bronze Age excavation in the region. Tall el-Hammam is firmly identified as the infamous city of Sodom from the book of Genesis, having garnered attention around the world in every significant newspaper and media outlet, including documentaries featuring Dr Collins and Tall el-Hammam/Sodom for the National Geographic, Discovery, History, Science, and Travel Channels, as well as several independent films. Last year, NHK (Japanese national television) released a lengthy documentary about the meteoritic airburst explosion that destroyed Tall el-Hammam/Sodom and its satellite cities/towns toward the end of the Middle Bronze Age (the time of the patriarch Abraham).

A prolific researcher and writer, Dr Collins has produced a wealth of articles in professional journals, books, and magazines. His many books include Discovering the City of Sodom (Simon & Schuster 2013) and The Harvest Handbook of Bible Lands (a Gold Medallion finalist; Harvest House Publishers, 2019). A professional member of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) and the Near East Archaeological Society (NEAS), he is a much-sought-after conference speaker/teacher, and hosts the bi-annual International Symposium on Archaeology & the Bible (ISAB IX is in January 2026).
